What is Just Italian?
Just Italian is currently the most efficient app teaching you the beautiful 🇮🇹 Italian language.
Efficient means, your progress in Italian will be fast. Read on to learn more.
How does it work?​
Just Italian is a flashcards-based app. Flashcards are cards which have both a front and a back side. You look at the front side and try to translate the word (or phrase) on it.
When you have translated the front side - or not - you turn the card to look at the back side, which shows you a translation (or multiple translations).
Now, if you are happy with your translation, you press one of the green buttons, for example easy. If not, one of the red buttons, like hard.
And then you continue with the next card.
Is it that simple? How do I learn the language?​
It's that simple. Learning happens through repeatedly hearing a word or phrase and trying to remember the translation.
If translating a word or phrase is hard for you, then you need to practice it more often. For this reason, if you press a red button like too hard, the card will be shown again soon, so you can practice the word or phrase more often.
On the other hand, if a card is easy for you, then you don't need to practice that word so often. Just Italian will show you the card rarer and rarer.
Is this enough to learn a language?​
This learning method is known as Spaced Repetition or the Leitner system. It has been scientifically proven to be a very effective learning method, be it for languages or other things.
With Just Italian, you do not spend too much time on things that are too easy for you, because it will show you the things that you still need to practice.
Is it easy to use?​
Just Italian and its sister apps are used by users of all ages, with diverse backgrounds and skills. We have specifically tested it with a broad user base, to make sure it is usable by everyone.
So yes, we believe that it is very easy to use. You just get on board and start translating those words. If you do not know a word or a phrase, no problem. Turn the card and it will show you. Then try to remember it until you see the card the next time.

Can beginners in Italian use it?​
Yes, Just Italian is both suited for absolute beginners, intermediate users as well as advanced users. When you first start the app, we will show you a couple of cards to get an idea of your current level in Italian. After that, the cards you see will depend on your level.
Beginners start to learn everyday words like "the mother", "the dinner" and "the chair". Advanced learners are prompted to translate phrases like "He considers himself a guardian of moral standards." 😉
Is it better than the other language learning apps?​
People are different, and every app has its advantages. There will always be people who prefer app X or method Y to learn the language.
While other apps have their strengths in gamification (turning learning into a game), social connections, and other things that make it more fun to use, Just Italian shines in efficiency. Evaluations and studies have shown it to be much more efficient in advancing your language abilities than other apps.
Is it free to use?​
Yes. Just Italian will be free to use forever (that is, as long as it exists). And the more people use it, the longer it will exist, so go tell your friends about it 😉
