Good question! There are already quite a lot of language learning apps, and some of them are quite good.
However, most of them do not really offer users to decide for themselves, what they want to learn. Sometimes language learning apps plague users with the same easy stuff over and over again. This is especially true for advanced users, who are not challenged anymore. Overall, the efficiency of learning is not as good as it could be - people learn the language, but they do not learn it as fast as they could.
Other apps do not have that particular problem, but they lack user-friendlyness or have content issues.
Just Italian offers a very efficient learning method, and at the same time, it is very user-friendly. You decide what you want to practice, and Just Italian will show you exactly that.
Questions about Learning
This is completely up to you. The more you learn daily, the faster you will progress.
Just Italian lets you define your daily goal, starting from 1 minute per day.
Set yourself a reasonable goal. Ten minutes per day is more effective than one hour once per week!
Just Italian teaches you words and phrases, and how to translate them:
- Words are important especially for beginners. You start building your vocabulary.
- Phrases are learnt from the beginning, starting with common phrases. More advanced users learn primarily by translating more complex sentences.
- Finally, there are vocabularies on a large variety of topics.
The Search screen is the place to go if you want to look up a word or phrase. It offers a search bar where you can type in the word you are looking for.
When you have found the word you were looking for, you can tap on it to add it to your learning queue.
Just Italian shows you two types of cards: Reviews are cards that you have already learned at an earlier point in time. The easier a card is for you, the longer it takes until it is shown again to you.
New Cards are shown to you based on your language level and your course subscriptions.
This is because Just Italian wants to make sure you remember the words you have learned. The more you practice a word, the better you will remember it.
New Cards are shown only if all the Reviews that need practice have been reviewed. This ensures that you are not overwhelmed with new words and phrases.
The best way to see more New Cards is to practice more often. Eventually, you will master the words and phrases in the Reviews.
Many other language learning apps decide for you what you should learn. You can influence it, but in the end, the app shows you some words or phrases that you might want to practice - or not. There are many examples of language learning apps that show you the same easy stuff over and over again, and you have no way of telling the app
«I'm fine, I know this, please don't show it again»
Just Italian tries to let you decide, which words and phrases you want to practice. The way you do that is by Grading the words and phrases:
- Cards graded red are shown again soon.
- Cards you grade green however are shown rarer and rare. The more you grade a card green, the less it will appear.
If you want to review cards of a certain type, you can always start a learning session of a specific type. In the Home Screen, scroll down to your course list and tap the course you want to practice.
However, this applies to the current learning session only. To change the number of cards of a specific type generally, you need to change your course subscriptions.
If you think that a translation is wrong, or you find another problem with a card, you can flag the card.
To do this, tap the "Hamburger" button at the top right of the screen, and then tap "Flag Card". You can then specify a more detailed reason for flagging the card.
Thank you for helping us improve the quality of the cards!
