Hiding many Cards

Hiding many Cards

If you are reading this, you were probably warned by Just Italian to not hide too many cards.

What's wrong with hiding many cards?

Hiding cards is not wrong per se. The button hide is there, why not use it?

The thing is, users sometimes hide cards because they have an understanding of Just Italian that they have acquired from another app, but that does not really apply to Just Italian.

We have seen users hide cards for the following reasons:

Hiding because the card is too hard

If the card is too hard, you can indeed hide it. However, this means that the card will not again be shown to you, even if your language skills have advanced so much that the card might not be too hard anymore.

For this reason, it is better to try to remember the translation, and then use the too hard button instead of the hide button. This way, the card will be shown to you again soon.

Another option would be to skip the card the card for a longer time. For example, you could skip the card for three months. Maybe the card is not too hard anymore after three months of diligent learning?

Users hiding the card because they think they have learned it

We have seen users press the hide button because they think they have learned the card, so they can hide it for good.

Although this can be an option in some cases, it is almost always better to use the too easy button. That way, the card will appear again after some time. This makes sure that you have learned the card for good, and not just in the moment. The more you press the too easy button, the less often you will see that card.

Hiding because the card is too easy

If a card is ridiculously easy for you, then it might indeed make sense to hide it for good. Please note however, that if the majority of cards are too easy, then it might make sense to change the level.
