The Progress Bar

A progress bar showing 15 learnt seconds, of one minute daily goal.

The Progress Bar shows the amount of time you have been learning today, as well as how much time you need to learn until you have reached your daily goal.

If the progress bar becomes full, your session will end, as you have reached your daily goal.

When learning a language, you should not need to spend too much time trying to remember a word or translation. Either you remember the word in a matter of a few seconds - or not. Imagine yourself talking in Italian to someone else, and for every word, you need to think a few seconds - you clearly have not really mastered those words.

Just Italian tries to teach you Italian in a fluent way. The words should come fluently and naturally from you, as they do when you are speaking your native language.

If you need more than a few seconds to remember a word, then you should practice that word more often, until it will pop into your mind immediately.

For this reason, the time progress indicator will go orange after a few seconds have gone by. This tells you that you should practice this card more often - which can be achieved by grading this card as hard or too hard and then move on to the next card.

This has several advantages:

  • It teaches your mind to remember the words immediately. You practice the words and phrases until your mind can translate them fluently, without much effort.
  • By not spending too much time on individual cards, you can review more cards in the same amount of time.
tip

If you do not like the progress bar going orange and blinking, you can deactivate that behavior in the Settings.

I have reached my daily goal, why is the progress bar not full?

Normally, the progress bar shows the time towards your daily goal. But if you have already reached your daily goal, you can continue learning for as long as you want. If you have decided to learn for an additional three minutes, the progress bar will show those three minutes as if they were part of your daily goal.
